The Deliverance star talked at length about it all during a recent appearance on the “Tamron Hall” show. While there, she discussed her new venture, “Monique’s Movement,” a free fitness brand she’s recently started on YouTube with her trainer.

As you may have seen over the last decade, the award-winning actress has been showing everyone her dedication to living healthier on social media.

“It is one of the best things that I’ve ever done because not only is it saving my life — but it’s saving y’all lives,” she said to the audience.

However, things turned a bit serious when she discussed the impetus for her quest to lose some weight, sharing that it all kicked off after having a harsh conversation with her husband Sidney Hicks about her assistant. Specifically, Mo’Nique said that her assistant used to regularly run to the top of the stairs in their home to help her tie her shoes.

“It was very dramatic and I like drama. And she would run in and jump down and tie my shoes, right? And when she walked away, my husband said to me one day: ‘do you think that’s cute?’” Mo’Nique said. “He said, ‘Is she tying your shoes because you can’t bend down? Or does she think that’s something that she needs to do?’ And it’s because I couldn’t bend down comfortably to tie my shoes.”

She then urged women not to take sensitive feedback from their partners so personally as the two of them are supposed to be “teammates” and recalled another “tough love” conversation she had with Hicks that let her know it was time to get serious about shredding some pounds.

Detailing how one night when she “packed her plate” with all the food that had been cooked, her husband quickly questioned her on if she was “going to eat all that?” Offended, “The Parkers” star said that she threw the plate in the trash and went back into their bedroom. Afterwards, Hicks came in and told her: “Listen, I can deal with you being mad. But I can’t deal with you being dead.”

“So at that point, I said ‘OK, I’ve got to do something different.’ Because I want him for a lifetime. I want that type of love that I’m receiving and learning how to give back, I want that for as long as I can have that,” Mo’Nique said. “And when I’m in 90s and when I’m in my hundreds–cause I’ve already asked for it — when I’m in my hundreds, I still want to be active with my husband.”

Additionally, Mo’Nique expressed that she wanted to document her journey to living better to encourage other women and to let them know that they don’t always need a pill or surgery.

“If you really commit, the weight will go away. But that’s why I now no longer talk about weight, I talk about health,” she said.
