Audio from 2015 has circulated online of Young Thug– real name Jeffery Lamar Williams II allegedly giving investigators details about the infamous shooting of New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne’s tour bus. What’s more is Thug allegedly name dropped rapper Peewee Roscoe in the two-hour clip, implicating him in the shooting.

“This n***a shot at this n***a [Wayne] tour bus,” Young told police in 2015. “Honestly, I don’t know who the f**k did it. They said [Peewee] Roscoe,” he continued. Given that Young has been on a recent “anti-snitching” campaign against Gunna, the resurfaced clip caught viral attention.

Thug eventually came out to defend himself. In a series of tweets, he wrote on X, “Stop trying to make me one of those boys… death before dishonor.” He also posted a court motion in his defense. “This motion got filed cause the detective lied and said I made a statement in back of a police car stupid,” he added. But that didn’t stop folks for calling him out further. What has many folks online talking is another alleged tweet from Thug taking down other rappers with him.

“Since yall wanna call me a snitch, let’s just air it all out then… We all be taking mad dih in Atlanta,” the tweet read. “All yo fav rappers be taking it and they homeboys be giving it.” Folks quickly ran with the narrative that the “Stoner” rapper was coming out of the closet and exposing alleged dealings within the Atlanta rap scene.

@kartelonair took to TikTok asking, “What’s going on in Atlanta?” Another user, @clubghod_sez, simply said, “I have no words” in response to the viral tweet. Well, The Root did our own investigation, and there’s no evidence to suggest this suspicious tweet actually came from Young Thug.

The debunked tweet began amid the rapper’s tweets attempting to clear his name. X’s AI tool, Grok, confirmed the post was fake over Labor Day weekend. Additionally, no reputable news outlet covered the questionable tweet, suggesting an online troll trying to get some fame was actually responsible. Thug did not address these rumors.

But that didn’t stop Comedian Charleston White took to social media saying, “I told y’all Young Thug was gone go tell it.” He continued, “Gunna don’t have no interrogation tape, and everybody mad at Gunna… You [Young Thug] didn’t take the stand, but you told. This is why y’all ship sunk,” White added referring to the racketeering case against Thug’s music label YSL.

Similarly, music executive Wack 100 told DJ Akademikz “telling is telling.” He went on to explain that regardless if the “So Much Fun” rapper tried to spin the situation, speaking to police about Roscoe still qualifies as snitching.

Roscoe posted a video defending Thug. “I done the time. I did that. That’s what you do. When you go into the interrogation room, that’s what you do.” Last year, Roscoe took a plea for his involvement in the 2015 shooting as part of the larger YSL trial, WSB-TV reported.

While much of the world is still bashing Thug, Roscoe stayed strong in his defense. “He did what a tax-paying citizen do, a real street n***a. He kept it silent, kept it overly real. Really, tried to pull me out the hole,” Roscoe said.
