The Telegraph, a conservative British newspaper published in London daily, published an article containing King Charles’ leaked funeral plans. And what it contains has the royal community shocked and confused.

It’s no secret that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are on the outs with their royal counterparts. The pair announced their intention to “step back as ‘senior’ members” of the British royal family in January 2020, and their official transition from their roles occurred that March. The married couple moved to America and has been estranged from their London family ever since.
But The Telegraph’s article exposing what is to happen when King Charles dies has Prince Harry and Meghan at the heart of it all.
According to the outlet, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be formally invited to take part in the family vigil during the lying in state at Westminster Hall. The newspaper reported the duo will also play a prominent role during the funeral alongside the most senior royals, in addition to arrangements being made for their children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.
Harry’s kids, who are the King’s youngest grandchildren, have also been invited to attend the funeral service at Westminster, per the leak, as well as the committal at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, should they wish. Harry and the former “Suits” actress is indeed invited to not only attend public-facing ceremonies, but be included behind the scenes in briefings and rehearsals.
Folks on TikTok took this info… and ran with it, speculating that the reported leak wasn’t an accident, but intentional.
“Before you try to spin this as protocol, or politeness, let me stop you right there,” TikToker @thenotoriousjtb remarked. “Funeral plans for a monarch are meticulously crafted years in advance. Nothing gets included unless its intentional. Which means Charles himself made sure the Sussexes were written in the final chapter of his reign. This wasn’t a last minute PR stunt, this was a choice, a legacy decision.”
He added: “You don’t include estranged family in your own funeral, unless you’re either reconciling behind the scenes or you never cut them off to begin with.”
After the leak, the outlet said Buckingham Palace aides insisted King Charles’ funeral plans had not been finalized and cautioned against speculation.
King Charles was diagnosed with cancer on February 5, 2024. The diagnosis was made after a “separate issue of concern” was being tended to during a hospital procedure for a benign enlarged prostate in late January 2024.
Prince Harry visited London in February, reportedly to see King Charles’ after his cancer diagnosis. He also returned to London in May 2024 for a service marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. His wife, on the other hand, last visited London in September 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
