President Donald Trump‘s attacks on former President Barack Obama have reached a new low. Now, the 47th president has accused Obama of the unthinkable, which has many convinced this is a distraction from one of the biggest scandals of Trump’s second term so far.

It’s no secret the Republican party is starting to unravel as MAGA supporters and politicians continue to demand the release of the files on the convicted child sex abuser Jeffery Epstein. Instead of simply fulfilling his campaign promise to do so, Trump is shifting the narrative to Obama, accusing him of treason — which is still punishable by death in the United States.
This all started when Trump posted an AI-generated video of Obama being arrested by FBI agents. While many called the post “outrageous” and “racist,” others were wondering about the motive behind Trump’s Truth Social post. Now… the puzzle pieces are falling into place. Trump is going after the nation’s first Black president with full force.
National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliff claimed they found evidence Obama administration officials manipulated intelligence and conspired to undermine Trump’s 2016 electoral victory. Multiple experts and a CNN analysis have declared Gabbard’s findings to be “misleading” at best and “baseless.”
Nevertheless, this hasn’t stopped Trump from using the conspiracy theory to shift the focus away from Epstein when asked by reporters. “The witch hunt that you should be talking about is they caught President Obama absolutely cold,” Trump said in the White House Tuesday (July 22). “What they did in 2016 and 2020 is very criminal. It’s criminal at the highest level. So that’s really the things you should be talking about,” he declared.
He added: “This was treason. This was every word you can think of. They tried to steal the election… They did things that nobody’s ever even imagined, even in other countries.”
Obama typically keeps his cool whenever Trump targets him, but after Trump’s Tuesday diatribe, a rep for the 44th president spoke out. “Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one,” spokesman Patrick Rodenbush began.
“These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction. Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes,” Rodenbush continued. “These findings were affirmed in a 2020 report by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, led by then-Chairman Marco Rubio.”
Now, Director Gabbard has announced she will be making a criminal referral to the Department of Justice against Obama. In truth, it was Trump who was accused of conspiring with Russia to sway the election results of 2016. But after an internal investigation done by the Obama administration, it was found that no votes were misrepresented.
“I can assure the public that there was not the kind of tampering with the voting process that was of concern…the votes that were cast were counted — they were counted appropriately,” Obama said after receiving the December 2016 brief Gabbard and Trump keep referring to.
Ironically, the Epstein files don’t seem to be going away as Trump has hoped. The Wall Street Journal published a story detailing the relationship between the two billionaires, which has prompted a $10 billion lawsuit. And the matter keeps popping in federal courts.
