The whirlwind began in May 2024, when Kennard — now known as Brenay Montague — was named in a Durham County, North Carolina lawsuit for allegedly interfering in the marriage of her best friends, Timothy and Akira Montague. Mind you, Brenay was married to her own husband, Devon Mayo, at the time, while not-so-sneakily carrying on a flirty relationship with Timothy.

Without hesitation, Brenay and Timothy posted every suspicious interaction on social media for everyone to see. This includes unabashedly flirting with each other in front of their spouses, caressing and touching, and sharing intimate moments on live video in front of thousands of viewers — actions that would soon explode into public drama and costly legal trouble.

Timothy and Brenay Both Alienate Their Spouses

As viewers continued to watch the dynamic of the daring duo, fans agreed their “friendship” was growing more and more strange everyday. In the viral clip below, Akira is seen standing alone at the sink as her husband tagged along with Brenay in her kitchen. In the clip below, Tim is seen tagging alongside Brenay to season dinner, while his wife Akira watches from the sidelines.

According to Akira, Brenay was way too comfortable walking around her home — and husband — in short shorts, claiming space in their marital home, and simply disrespecting the dynamics of their marriage. And this wouldn’t be the last time the other spouse was left in the cold in the face of Brenay and Tim’s antics.

From viewers’ perspective, the audacity was at an all time high. It became commonplace for Brenay to tag along with Timothy during double dates, family outings, events, and dinners, all while her own husband, Devon, sat quietly alone. The viral clip below shows one of many instances, as Brenay records herself separated from her husband, and fans were quick to call out her shameless behavior.

“Wtffff omg I would flipped the whole car,” one fan teased, while another wrote, “She been disrespectful! Your whole husband in the back while another man in the front??? Smh.”

Brenay and Timothy Get Married

After months of Brenay allegedly flaunting her affair online, Timothy and Brenay both divorced their respective spouses Akira and Devon, before tying the knot together in September. While folks dragged them across social media for their careless choices, the couple celebrated with a romantic evening at Dave & Busters. And as per usual, the two posted their outing on TikTok for the world to see.

Montague v. Kennard: Akira Takes Brenay to Court

While things seemed to be moving along for the disgraced couple, the honeymoon phase didn’t last long. Akira brought both her ex-best friend Brenay and ex-husband Timothy to court, citing “alienation of affection” — claiming Brenay intentionally interfered in her marriage — and “criminal conversation” — alleging a sexual relationship with her spouse — stacking evidence that left little doubt about their affair.

Fans who emerged as “Team Akira” documented each day, and didn’t miss a beat.

“Akira finna get this mothafuckin’ money, that’s all I can tell y’all,” content creator Cherish told viewers after attending the initial hearing. And in the end, she wasn’t wrong.

Akira Wins in Court

A jury in Durham County found Brenay liable for both alienation of affection and criminal conversation. Brenay, who represented herself in court, argued that Akira “gave consent,” because she knew her marriage was over, an argument the jury simply wasn’t buying, per WRAL.

Akira Montague had over 700 pieces of evidence to back her claims. And per her lawyer, Robonetta Jones, “[Akira] received the justice she deserved,” and expressed that Brenay “weaponized” social media to harm her client.

“She humiliated her, and flaunted her husband. And now she has to pay for it,” Jones stated.

Meanwhile, when WRAL news anchors asked Brenay where she’ll find the coin to pay such a hefty lawsuit, she responded, “I don’t know. She’ll probably never see it,” per the news outlet.

On November 10, after a deliberation that lasted nearly two hours, a Superior Court judge ordered Brenay Montague to pay a jaw-dropping $1.5 million for “alienation of affection,” and $250,000 for “criminal conversation,” per The News & Observer.
