Ahh, the 2024 Emmys! It’s the official kickoff of awards season in Hollywood.
Some of TV’s biggest and brightest star will be taking over Los Angeles (more than they already do, mind you) to collect the coveted gold statuettes in honor of their contributions to the hottest shows and series. But we didn’t come here to talk about the show or the nominees, per se. One of the best parts of the award show is the red carpet fashions so it’s in that vein that we decided to take a look at handful of Black actresses who consistently serve looks and elevate fashion in their own way.
So let’s start things off strong with…
Taylor Russell

One of my favorite actresses to look for on the red carpet, Taylor Russell and her stylist just GET IT. I can never get enough of her and trying to anticipate just how much slayage she’s going to bring every single time.
Taraji P. Henson

Quiet as it’s kept, Taraji P. Henson often pulls off fire look after fire look. The best part for me is how she adds a little razzle dazzle to it through her nails and different hairstyles. Those details truly help bring it all together!
Fantasia Barrino-Taylor

The press run for “The Color Purple” showed everyone that Fantasia Barrino-Taylor was exactly what was missing on red carpets. From the fits to how they accentuated her curves, Fantasia don’t ever “free yourself” from strutting your stuff!
Rihanna

There’s absolutely no way you can talk fashion and not mention Rihanna’s name. And though she only has a few acting credits (looking at you “Ocean’s 8,” “Guava Island,” and “Battleship”)—you already know how Rih’s stepping whenever she walks out her front door. Whether she’s killing it in candid paparazzi shots or on red carpets, Rih’s reign as a fashion icon is truly unmatched.
Tracee Ellis Ross

As the daughter of Diana Ross, fabulousness in fashion is in Tracee Ellis Ross’ blood. She consistently slays!
Zendaya

When it comes to Zendaya’s stylish serves, I only have four words to say: “thank you, Law Roach!”
Teyana Taylor

There’s a reason why Teyana Taylor was an opening act at Vogue World: Paris earlier this year. Every carpet, every opportunity she has to serve a look—she takes it and does so flawlessly.
Lori Harvey

While Lori Harvey may be an entrepreneur thanks to her swimwear and skincare line, she’s long been a fashion source of inspiration for folks and for good reason!
Beyonce

Before y’all jump me and say Bey’s not an actress—“Dreamgirls,” “Fighting Temptations,” and “Carmen: A Hip Hopera” would like a word. Outside of that, the looks the Queen served on her “Renaissance World Tour” alone in 2023 are still going viral to this day and for good reason.
Sheryl Lee Ralph

The fun fact I love about Sheryl Lee Ralph’s style is that she’s been getting dressed by her daughter Ivy Coco Maurice and the choices have been impeccable!
Da’Vine Joy Randolph

Da’Vine Joy Randolph may be a fairly new consistent face on the red carpets but she’s been making her mark with every last one and absolutely killing it with her style.
Gabrielle Union

Gab Union being on this list should be a no-brainer because she’s rarely ever missed on the carpet or in streetstyle!
Jodie Turner-Smith

Not including Jodie Turner-Smith on this list would be a criminal offense and I’m not fit for prison so her looks are definitely going on here!
Janelle Monae

Unique in dress, eclectic in music, and a powerhouse on and offscreen—Janelle Monae’s style has always been the topic of conversation and will likely continue to be.
Marsai Martin

A young queen who’s moves have always been just as fire as her outfits, Marsai Martin’s fashions are consistently fitting and fun!
Niecy Nash-Betts

There hasn’t been a moment that Niecy Nash-Betts has put on a good outfit and I wasn’t in awe. Keep it up, Queen!
Issa Rae

There’s nothing “insecure” when it comes to Issa Rae’s style. The goodness truly never ends (much like her reign in Hollywood).
Quinta Brunson

Quinta Brunson’s fits have been so beautfiul, she’s really set the standard when it comes to how shorter women can be adorned properly. Stylists, take notes!
