The singer said she’ll have to take a step to recover from throat surgery.

On Wednesday (August 6), Taylor posted on her Instagram story to share a health update with her fans, stating that her doctors had found a non-cancerous growth on her vocal cords and she has to have immediate surgery to have it removed. While the news is scary, the “Gonna Love Me” singer did express that because they caught it in time, it is treatable, but she’ll have to take a moment to step back and recover.

“Because of this, I have to step back from some upcoming appearances. Including Mrs Obama’s podcast taping at Martha’s Vineyard this weekend, and that honestly breaks my heart. I don’t take lightly what it means to show up for y’all,” the story read.

However, even though the R&B singer will be taking a step back from public appearances, she also stated that the album release date will remain the same:

“I’ve poured so much of myself into this next chapter—especially the escape room, which is still dropping August 22! So no worries there. It’s the most personal body of work I’ve ever created, and the timing… It’s not lost on me. Just as I was getting ready to finally share this with you, life handed me my own unexpected “Escape Room”—one I didn’t ask for, but one I have to find my way out of with patience, rest, and faith.”

“Escape Room” is Taylor’s first album since “The Album” was released five years ago. While the album can be looked at as a symbolic escape from her marriage to ex-husband, Iman Shumpert, Taylor has stated that the album is about escaping from anything. Speaking with radio host Zane Lowe, the “Rose In Harlem” singer had this to say:

“I don’t want people to hear this album and be like, ‘damn, it’s all just relationship-based.’ It’s not. I’ve had marriages to some rough sh*t. I’ve had some very bittersweet relationships within the industry… A lot of things have broken my heart… so, you know, anybody can navigate to it, it will conform to anybody, it’s customizable for any feelings you have.”

The “Escape Room” album rollout has kept fans on the edge of their seats, as well as confirmed her relationship with Aaron Pierre. Though it might be a little quiet on Taylor’s side while she recovers, she has assured fans that when she returns, it’ll be with “Even more fire, even more purpose, and the best version of me.”
