Teyana Taylor Details Why She Spoke About Her Divorce On Instagram, and Was Good With Being Fined $70K For It

Why Teyana Taylor says her $70k court fine for detailing her divorce dirt was money well spent.

Divorce is often tricky, even more so in the public eye, where it costs to defend yourself, literally. Recently, Teyana Taylor was hit with a $70,000 fine for discussing the details of her ongoing divorce settlement on an Instagram live back in March, according to The Independent.

However, the singer has just come out to say that the $70k was the “best little coin” she ever spent, and this is why. Appearing on “The Breakfast Club,” Taylor sat down to talk about her new album “Escape Room,” its accompanying short film, her boo Aaron Pierre, and set some records straight about her court battle and why she spoke about it on Instagram live in the first place. The singer states that before she went on live, she had tried to speak with her ex-husband, Iman Shumpert, directly to settle things in private.

“I thought we were on great terms… So I’m like, ‘Hey Baby Daddy (Iman Shumpert), so something’s coming back to me that, you know, you and your people are sending out stuff (about Taylor to media publications).’ I said, ‘But it’s hard to believe that because we’re in a really great space… So I don’t see what your angle would be on top of the fact that you know what’s being put out is not true…”

Though Taylor had hoped that it wasn’t her ex-hubby who was behind the negative attention she was getting in the press, that is not what she allegedly found out. On “The Breakfast Club,” Taylor claims that the basketball player had been behind the false rumors that had been spread about her and their divorce in the media. She said going on Instagram was a way for to defend herself from the false narrative that had been painted of her.

“I had a witness (in court) who came with actual receipts that they were being paid to have a smear campaign against me… The only thing I got in trouble for was when (I) went into details (on Instagram live) about what we get (from the divorce settlement).”

The “Bed of Roses” singer also expressed annoyance at the fact that every time she has something new coming out, it was soon overshadowed by news about her divorce, and that was another reason why she was happy to pay the fine.

” It’s kind of like to pretty much punish me because of my accolades… However, if it’s (paying the fine) going to give me my peace and we can be done with this for good, I sent that wire so fast. I sent that wire so f****** fast,” she said. ” It was the best little coin I ever spent in my life because I never have to deal with this again, and I’ll never allow a person to silence me… I just want my peace.”
