Texas State Rep Under Fire For, Umm…Violent Comments She Made About How to Deal With Republicans

Democratic State Rep. Jolanda Jones is under fire for comments she made about how she’s prepared to deal with her Republican colleagues.

For years, Democrats in government have taken their cues from former First Lady Michelle Obama, who famously suggested that when they go low, we go high. But now some are arguing that the current political climate calls for a different strategy, and one Texas House Democrat is getting a lot of attention for saying that the idea of playing nice with their Republican colleagues is off the table.

During a recent appearance on CNN, Texas State Rep. Jolanda Jones told host Erin Burnett that Dems can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result when Republicans in government aren’t playing by the rules.

“I’m from the hood, ok? So when a bully comes, if there are no rules, you literally have to figure it out,” she said.

She went on to say that people of color and poor people who are being negatively impacted by a struggling economy and the threat of military troop deployments in their neighborhoods are looking for Democrats to stand up for them against an administration that is making their quality of life even worse.

“So if you hit me in my face, I’m not going to punch you back in your face, I’m going to go across your neck,” she said. “You’ve got to hit hard enough where they won’t come back.

As you can imagine, Republicans were outraged, suggesting on social media that Rep. Jones should lose her job for her comments.

“Disgusting that someone who says something like that is still eligible to run for an elected position in the USA,” wrote someone on X.

Others suggested that host Erin Burnett should not have allowed Rep. Jones to speak that way on television.

“Erin – how could you not call this threatening, horrible comment out?” wrote someone else on X.

But not everyone took her comments literally. One commenter said the whole thing was much ado about nothing.

“Not a supporter but pretty sure she is using it as a metaphor,” wrote one user on X.
