One Texas family is celebrating after recently learning that a century-old streak in their family tree is finally coming to an end. Michael Sherman Jr’s relatives were happy to come together to celebrate the upcoming arrival of his second child. Michael, who is a firefighter, and his wife Joacquia are already parents to a 5-year-old son, Mekhai.

But this gender reveal party took on a completely different vibe when the guests saw pink instead of blue. That’s because they haven’t had a new baby girl in the family in 108 years.
Michael Jr. told KTRK that he feels a sense of pride for being the first to bring a girl into the Sherman family in over a century. The last was his great-great-aunt, Orah Belle Sherman, who was born in 1917. Family members say she was a civil rights trailblazer in Atlanta before she passed away in 2004.
“I just feel honored that finally, we’re the ones bringing a baby girl into the world,” Michael Jr. said.“Finally, after over 100 years, it’s amazing.”
The new baby girl’s mom echoed Dad’s sense of pride, telling Fox 26 Houston that she is grateful her daughter will come into the world knowing she is special.
“This is so much bigger than us. Our daughter will always know she’s part of something extraordinary, and we’re just grateful for this blessing,” Joacquia Sherman said.
Previous generations of the Sherman family have only seen boys, but it’s not for lack of trying.
“It’s like a monumental thing. I have three boys. My dad had two boys. His brother had two boys. So, it’s never been nothing but boys, boys, boys,” said the baby’s grandfather, Michael Sherman Sr.
Baby girl Sherman is due in March, and it should come as no surprise that she already has a fresh new wardrobe waiting for her.
“We have like three bags of clothes already…a closet full of dresses,” one relative said.
