After all the family drama that fans witnessed playout during the most recent season of “The Braxtons” and side-eyeing moments with Tamar Braxton and Birdman during the No Limit vs. Cash Money “Verzuz” battle, the “Calling All Lovers” singer pulled up to “The Sherri Shepard Show” to address the tea…and then some.

Previously, The Root reported on an explosive confrontation between Tamar and her sister Towanda, in which tensions ran high, and accusations flew. During the heated exchange, Towanda alleged that Tamar had an affair with a man who later became romantically involved with their oldest sister, Toni Braxton.
After the clip went viral, fans were left puzzled about the mystery man, with many pointing fingers at Toni’s now-husband, Brian “Birdman” Williams. The “Hot Sugar” star addressed the speculation during her candid conversation with Shepherd.
“Well, she didn’t say Brian,” Tamar clarified. “The truth is, I introduced Toni to her husband.” She went on to explain that she and Williams were strictly platonic friends before he met Toni. According to Tamar, while she was discussing a potential Cash Money deal with Williams, he expressed interest in dating Toni, who was still married to her former husband, Keri Lewis, at the time.
Toni Braxton and Williams secretly got married on August 8, 2024, but filed for divorce two weeks later, claiming their marriage was “irretrievably broken.” In January 2025, Braxton dismissed the divorce petition.
“So when Towanda said it, how did that make you feel?” Shepard asked while displaying a photo of Toni Braxton and Birdman. “It really, it upset you.”
“Well, it upset me for several reasons,” Tamar responded. “Number one, it’s not the truth, and the reason why its not the truth is because everybody knows that the person she was speaking with was abusive towards me.” Without hesitation, Tamar makes it clear about the relationship she shares with the Cash Money CEO, who is not the presumed man.
“Now, that’s my brother-in-law,” she said of Williams. “That’s my brother. That’s my blood.” Tamar also explained that she stepped in to support Birdman on Toni’s behalf while she was absent during the Cash Money vs. No Limit Verzuz at ComplexCon in October.
“When I was wiping the sweat off of him — first of all, it was water,” Tamar joked. “‘Wipe me down.’ I was in it.”
The conversation became more reflective as Braxton explained that her family faces many emotional hurdles in their dynamics, but “the holy ghost” and a lot of prayer have helped the sisters navigate their turmoil.
“My mom plays an intricate part in our relationship,” Braxton continues. “Number one, I was embarrassed by my sisters, to a degree. And the reason why I wasn’t all the way embarrassed is that this is what families do, ours is just on TV.” Braxton goes on to explain that this is not a reflection of the women that her mother raised.
When asked where the sisters stand now, Tamar shared that they are moving in a healthier direction.
“We are in a healthy space,” she said. “I think everyone has taken accountability for their part, I think publicly and privately. And now, I think its time for healing.”
As the comments poured in online, many fans expressed relief that the air had finally been cleared, though others remain unconvinced.

Meanwhile, some viewers are still questioning the identity of the mystery man.
One TikTok user commented, “OK, but wait—how was he abusive if they were in a relationship? I remember her speaking on being in an abusive relationship, so did that person later date Toni too?”
Another added, “Why would Toni’s ex be abusive to Tamar? I’m so confused. Towanda ain’t lying!”
