Her days on hit shows like “Girlfriends” and “Black-‘ish” may be behind her, but Tracee Ellis Ross has found a whole new legion of fans with her PATTERN Beauty products, designed to help people with coily, curly, and tight textures have the healthy and gorgeous head of hair they deserve. Since 2019, her company has become a major force in the beauty market, and as the brand has grown, so has the need for a dedicated space for the team that makes things happen every day.

In collaboration with Design Within Reach (DWR), Ross designed a bright, modern office space in West Hollywood that her team says is a perfect representation of the brand.
“The foundation needed to reflect the brand’s ethos,” lead designer Alyssa Lewis told Interior Design.

A Space Where People Can Be Themselves

Ross says it was important for her to create a space where people feel comfortable bringing themselves to work every day.
“I don’t like people coming pretending to be something that they aren’t. What I love most is when people can actually feel confident and have agency in the truth of who they are,” she said.
Pattern’s Inspiration

Ross said the inspiration for creating her PATTERN line of beauty products stemmed from what she saw as a lack of available products that supported healthy, natural hair for people of color.
“I didn’t really see a standard of beauty that really made space for curly, coily and tight textured hair,” she said.
Lots of Light

When choosing pieces for the space, Ross wanted to integrate beautiful furniture and accessories that help inspire everyone who works there.
Spaces for Collaborating

Among her favorite features of the office are the bright huddle rooms designed for members of her team to collaborate in smaller groups. The glass walls and large windows let in lots of light to help spark great ideas.
The Conference Room

With over 400,000 followers on Instagram and distribution in major retailers, including Sephora, Ulta Beauty and Macy’s, there’s no doubt that the folks at PATTERN are doing big business. We have to believe that this large conference room with lots of seating and floor-to-ceiling windows is where many of the big deals go down.

When designing the space, Ross said it was important that the office reflects the brand. The clean lines and simple colors found in her product packaging come through in every room.
