While Democrats’ continue to celebrate major wins after Tuesday’s election, it seems like many MAGA Republicans might be shaking in their boots! And in the case of Steve Bannon, the former advisor to President Donald Trump, more Democratic wins might mean he has to return to prison… again.

The elections of a Democratic governor in Virginia, Congressmen in the deep South and even a socialist mayor in New York City has reignited the Democratic party after nearly a year-long slump. This is great news for the party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, but on the other hand, GOP losses have sent Republicans back to the drawing board.
Bannon spoke to a crowd at a Conservative Partnership Institute event on Wednesday (Nov. 5) to explain exactly why more conservatives should be worried. “I will tell you right now, as God is my witness,” Bannon began. “If we lose the midterms and we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison—myself included.”
What’s ironic about Bannon’s remarks– outside of the fact that Bannon previously served four months in prison– is that the president reportedly has already tried to lock up many of his own political enemies. From posting AI videos of former President Barack Obama being arrested to leading the charge to prosecute N.Y. Attorney General Letitia James and even bringing a RICO lawsuit against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Trump has a well-documented history of attacking Democrats. Now, Bannon said if things don’t go in favor of the Republicans by 2028, Trump will be next.
Back in March, Bannon made a similar statement on his “War Room” podcast, according to The Hill. “God forbid we don’t win in 2028, President Trump is going to prison just like Bolsonaro in Brazil,” he said.
American politics, according to some, has become more polarized ever since Trump returned to office. In fact, Congress is still at a standstill after failing to agree on a federal budget. This marks the longest government shutdown in history, with no sign that it’ll end anytime soon.
According to Bannon, it’s times like these that could mean he and many of his conservative buddies might end up in prison. “They’re not gonna stop,” he said of the Democrats. “They are getting more and more and more radical. And we have to counter that. And what do we have to counter it with? We have to counter it with more action, more intense action, more urgency. We’re burning daylight.”
Under Trump, Republicans have declared their own mandate to tackle immigration, rewrite the Constitution and reshape the entire government. Bannon continued saying conservatives will never have another chance to get the job done. “If we don’t do that now, we’re gonna lose this chance forever, because you’re never gonna have another Trump, all right?” he continued. “You’re just not going to have him.”
