Crockett, the fiery Democrat never afraid to go after MAGA, is one of the leaders within her party. With that, she’s faced backlash after coming for Trump and his allies any chance she gets. Most of her critics are MAGA, but shockingly– or maybe not so much– Smith has joined the crowd.
On a recent episode of Smith’s podcast, “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.,” he called out Democrats. — including Crockett by name — for sympathizing with Black voters in order to paint Republicans as the bad guys. “You have a Democratic Party that knew they were getting our vote, would engage in demagoguery, scare the living hell out of us about what existed on the right and, as a result, they’d get our vote,” he said. “And all they had to do to get it was to give us lip service about negative stuff about the other side.”
For Smith, the main issues for Black people have nothing to do with racism. He said, “What it’s really about is us not strategizing, playing checkers instead of chess, letting our emotions instead of facts lead the way and letting that guide us to express ourselves in ways that serve to alienate the very people who can help us.” According to the radio personality, politicians like Crockett can’t help Black people like they’ve promised.
“However Jasmine Crockett chooses to express herself, I’m like, ‘is that gonna help your district in Texas?’” The Texan’s attacks and call outs of MAGA have landed her in bad graces with the president, who previously called her “low-IQ,” adding that she’s unqualified and simply bad at her job. Other MAGA folks like Vice President JD Vance have denounced Crockett. Smith said at some point, Crockett has to change her method in order to come to a common ground with the other side.
“Aren’t you there to find a way to get stuff done, as opposed to just be an impediment to what Trump wants?” he continued. “How much work goes into that? ‘I’m just going to go off about Trump, cuss him out every chance I get, say the most derogatory, incendiary things imaginable, and that’s my day’s work.’ That ain’t work.”
Many Black folks reacted to Smith’s remarks calling him out for trying to appease MAGA. On X, @charliesmommee wrote Smith “is a b***h per usual.” She continued, “He will NEVER be with his people so we should stop expecting him to not be a POS [piece of sh*t].”
User @FunkyWeezy tweeted, “A bruh stick to sports and leave that woman alone for having balls you never had. You a Joke.”
Other folks like @AskDrPratt defended Crocket saying, “Lies @JasmineForUS is known for her work ethic just he is known for his loudness and apologies.”
Smith added that Black Americans need to keep vigilant…especially these days. “As I religiously stated throughout the years, when White folks catch a cold, Black folks catch pneumonia,” he said. “It’s always worse for us. Pick any historical data you want to point to. It is always worse for us.”
