From seat selection to what really qualifies as a carry-on bag, airline travel can be frustrating. But for one Chicago woman, what she was wearing was the source of her stress while traveling on the airline that is always good for giving us a viral video moment – Spirit.
Tanasia Grayer was trying to board a flight from Miami to Chicago with her sister when airline employees confronted her because of her in-flight outfit.
“We were getting ready to board the plane, and the lady at the front desk she stopped me and said, ‘You’re not getting on a plane like that,’” Grayer told CBS News Miami. “So I looked at her and I said, ‘Like what?’ She said, ‘With those shorts.’”
Grayer said she was wearing a robe over her shorts and was at the airport in enough time to change her clothes if she had been approached earlier. She added that she wore a similar pair of shorts when she flew to Miami, but was not confronted by anyone at the airline on that trip, so she didn’t understand why she would have a problem on her return flight.

How people show up to the airport has been a hot topic, as some believe that when it comes to being comfortable on planes, bonnets, pajamas and slippers are a bridge too far.
Earlier this year, the airline made changes to its Contract of Carriage, indicating that passengers will not be allowed to board an aircraft if they violate their dress code standards, which include being “barefoot or inadequately clothed (i.e., see-through clothing; not adequately covered; exposed breasts, buttocks, or other private parts), or whose clothing or article, including body art, is lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature.”
Since she made the news, the internet has been reacting to Grayer’s story, weighing in on what they think about her barely-there bottoms.
“Why is you trying to catch a flight like that with them little bitty shorts on?” said one TikToker. “Real women, we don’t move like that.”
According to CBS News Chicago, Grayer’s sister, Jessica Kordelewski, who exchanged words with airport security during the confrontation, was arrested, booked and eventually released for disorderly conduct. The sisters were able to book a flight back home on another airline. Kordelewski was placed on Spirit’s no-fly list, and Grayer says she won’t be coming back to the 305 any time soon.
“I won’t be back in Miami at all,” she said.
