Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd is breaking his silence like never before when it comes to his time on “SNL,” and his interactions with his castmates. Specifically, he’s opening up about two little known facts that surprisingly involve drugs and being romantically involved with former costar Keenan Thompson

His revelations came in a nearly six-minute confessional type video posted on his Instagram on Tuesday in an attempt to express more “vulnerability and openness” to his fans and followers. One part of that vulnerability came when he shared that during the show, he was using pills and had “some pill problems” and that it eventually led to him selling those drugs to some of his former costars — though he failed to name anybody specifically.
“While I was at the show, I had some pill issues, you know, some pill problems,” Redd said. “Nothing too crazy, but crazy for my black a**. And I was even selling some to some of my castmates. I’m not gonna snitch on y’all motherf*ckers man.”
He continued by sharing that after getting wind of his “pill problems,” some of his costars decided to talk about him negatively instead of offering to get him some help. This in turn, led to him feeling “deeply hurt” by the lack of support.
“I would hear them because, you know, some of that Adderall shit got you super hearing and sh*t,” he added. “But [they] wouldn’t help me, you know. I would have panic attacks, [they] wouldn’t be concerned about me or nothing. Just would talk shit. It’s crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself.”
Additionally, Redd later talked about the fact that he dated Thompson’s ex-wife Christina Evangeline, noting that it wasn’t a decision he intentionally set out to do as he isn’t “the type of person to scheme on a person” or somebody that goes after people’s exes like that. To note, Thompson filed for divorce from Evangeline in June 2022.
Describing it as a “very unique, nuanced thing,” Redd explained that the only reason why they got entangled in the first place was because Evangeline was the only person to really check on him and help him out while he was struggling with pills.
“It’s crazy how somebody will watch you destroy yourself,” Redd explained in part. “[She] was the only one to call me on my sh*t, help me with my sh*t, she helped me with my therapy journey, and she told me things about her life that made me look at a lot of people involved in it differently.”
He continued: “In that time, we fell in love and I felt bad from the start. It’s always felt like an emotional double-edged sword for me, because I really love everything me and Kenan did, bro. I really appreciated every piece of work we put together, I think that we were a great team, and I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.”
There is a positive-ish end to this story though as Redd eventually revealed that he and Thompson were able to talk about the whole ordeal and worked together for a whole year before the news went public nearly five years ago. While he didn’t give a status on where he and the “Kenan and Kel” star’s friendship lies now, he did acknowledge that there was different ways that he could have gone about handling the whole thing.
“But I was in love, and I was spiraling out,” Red said. “That’s what happened, and by the time everybody found out, the world found out, I was out of there, “SNL”, you know?”
