If you see Sexxy Red and you’re trying to see what’s up...then you might be surprised to learn that the “Skee-Yee” rapper may just be pivoting to a new genre: kid’s rap.

The potential change in pace comes after the rapper and her music were the subject of a TikTok video where a children’s ballet teacher admonished educators and parents to actually work with their children and teach them how to respect authority figures, boundaries and be more diligent about keeping content that isn’t meant for or good for them at their age away from them—like Redd’s music. She then went on to describe a scenario where she was teaching a class and instead of the ballet music, her students requested instead that she play Red’s hit “Pound Town.”
“It’s horrifying. Your five-year-old daughters are asking to listen to ‘Pound Town’ and ‘SkeeYee,’” she said. “Your daughters, your five-year-old daughters, are asking, ‘Can we hear ‘Pound Town?’ I’m playing them Princess Tiana, ballet music and they are asking me, ‘Can we hear Pound Town?’”
She later added: “Where’s the parenting? Where’s the boundaries? Where’s the help? Y’all are not helping your kids, you’re hurting them.”
In response to the viral video, Red responded in a since-deleted tweet, “Girl play poundtown skeeyee & stfu.”
But it appears she may have had a change of heart (I say this with every sarcastic bone in my body), as she later followed that response up with: “Ima make some kidz bop songs for yall fr,” as captured by Complex. Her Twitter/X account has since been suspended.
Now whether or not Red actually decides to make a Turn Up for Toddlers tape or not, what bears repeating is the sentiment put forth by the concerned teacher about the importance of making sure our kids are exposed to things that are age-appropriate. And while we, of course, can’t tell anyone how to parent their children, I would hope we would all agree on the fact that those precious minds are our future and it would be more advantageous than not to make sure they’re ingesting the right things for their malleable minds.
