If you see Sexxy Red and youβre trying to see whatβs up...then you might be surprised to learn that the βSkee-Yeeβ rapper may just be pivoting to a new genre: kidβs rap.

The potential change in pace comes after the rapper and her music were the subject of a TikTok video where a childrenβs ballet teacher admonished educators and parents to actually work with their children and teach them how to respect authority figures, boundaries and be more diligent about keeping content that isnβt meant for or good for them at their age away from themβlike Reddβs music. She then went on to describe a scenario where she was teaching a class and instead of the ballet music, her students requested instead that she play Redβs hit βPound Town.β
βItβs horrifying. Your five-year-old daughters are asking to listen to βPound Townβ and βSkeeYee,ββ she said. βYour daughters, your five-year-old daughters, are asking, βCan we hear βPound Town?β Iβm playing them Princess Tiana, ballet music and they are asking me, βCan we hear Pound Town?ββ
She later added: βWhereβs the parenting? Whereβs the boundaries? Whereβs the help? Yβall are not helping your kids, youβre hurting them.β
In response to the viral video, Red responded in a since-deleted tweet, βGirl play poundtown skeeyee & stfu.β
But it appears she may have had a change of heart (I say this with every sarcastic bone in my body), as she later followed that response up with: βIma make some kidz bop songs for yall fr,β as captured by Complex. Her Twitter/X account has since been suspended.
Now whether or not Red actually decides to make a Turn Up for Toddlers tape or not, what bears repeating is the sentiment put forth by the concerned teacher about the importance of making sure our kids are exposed to things that are age-appropriate. And while we, of course, canβt tell anyone how to parent their children, I would hope we would all agree on the fact that those precious minds are our future and it would be more advantageous than not to make sure theyβre ingesting the right things for their malleable minds.
