Back in January, police were called to the Imogene Heights neighborhood to respond to a shots fired call. The shooting, which went down in a park just across the street from Memphis International Airport, shocked the local community after the victim was identified as Patrick Houston Jr., according to Fox 13 News.
If his name sounds familiar, that’s because Houston Jr. was the 21-year-old son of Project Pat– real name Patrick Houston. He was confirmed to be the rapper’s son two weeks after the incident on Jan 10. The shooting happened around 1:15 p.m. in the middle of a snow storm, Fox 13 reported. When authorities arrived to the scene, Houston Jr. was already deceased.
One week after the murder, authorities had no leads into who would kill Houston Jr. in broad daylight. But police caught a major break in the case after investigators with the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force linked a 19-year-old woman to the shooting.
Talia Jones reportedly fled Memphis after Houston’s murder. A warrant for her arrest was issued on June 27, according to WREG. Jones was eventually tracked down in Minneapolis, where she was swiftly taken into custody, officers say. During her arrest, Jones reportedly resisted initially, U.S. Marshals revealed.
Now, she’s been charged with the facilitation of first-degree murder, according to WREG News. According to court records, the 19-year-old suspect had already been wanted on a misdemeanor shoplifting warrant at the time of her arrest.
Her rap sheet includes domestic violence and other shoplifting charges. She remains in police custody, awaiting extradition back to Tennessee. It’s unclear if police have identified another suspect in connection to the January murder.
Project Pat has not yet commented on the death of his son. It’s unclear the relationship he with his son.
