Shepherd opened about that and more during a new interview for Vulture where she shared how then former cohost and fellow comedian Rosie O’Donnell helped her negotiate for a higher salary with execs on the show. The call from O’Donnell came amid a time Shepherd was getting talked about in the media for reportedly being “difficult” while contract negotiations were going on. The call also came months after O’Donnell had already called it quits for her run on the show.

But seeing all the unjustified chatter, Shepherd explained how one day, O’Donnell called her to tell her how much she and her the rest of her coshosts were getting paid so she’d be armed with knowledge going into those negotiations.

“They didn’t want to give me no money,” Shepherd explained. “I would have made more in a sitcom, and I got a boy with special needs.”

That’s when O’Donnell shared that before her departure, she was bringing in $2 million while cohosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselback were both raking in half a million dollars.

“Joy makes $500,000, Elisabeth Hasselbeck makes $500,000, so you need to ask for $2 million,” O’Donnell said.

That’s when Shepherd then shared that they offered her $400,000 but eventually, thanks to “The Flintstones” star, she would eventually start earning the big bucks.

“I eventually made a million, too. I always will credit Rosie O’Donnell for being free with that,” Shepherd said. She went on to stay on The View for seven years, making her run from 2007-2014.

Fast forward to now, the daytime TV host has been leaning into transparency more and getting comfortable in sharing more about her life and getting more comfortable in her own skin. Prior to her new interview, she made headlines for confidently pushing back against a doctor who suggested that she needed a facelift.

“This is my natural face with no makeup. The lines around my mouth are deep because of the laughter from my soul… my eyes are droopy because of the weight of tears I have shed,” she said in part letting her followers know she wouldn’t be undergoing any cosmetic surgery on her face any time soon.
