Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) is in the headlines, and this time, it has nothing to do with a marathon speech on the Senate floor. The 56-year-old lawmaker, who was known for being one of the few bachelors in Congress, just declared himself officially off the market, announcing his engagement to girlfriend Alexis Lewis in a Sept. 2 post on Instagram.

“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life. She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love,” Booker captioned his post. “I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!”
The post came with a beautiful photo dump from the moment, featuring pictures of the couple on vacation in Hawaii, including the moment he got down on one knee.
The reactions to the news having been coming in hot, as Booker’s post has received over 273,000 likes and nearly 12,000 comments, including one from his most recent ex, actress Rosario Dawson.
“Love Love! Congratulations you two! ❤️❤️” she commented on Booker’s Instagram post.
Others, including the folks at the New York Post, can’t help but notice how Booker’s new boo bears a striking resemblance to Dawson.

TikTok user @justellemuraski couldn’t help but agree, adding that Booker’s love is probably getting an earful from Senator, who is known for being long-winded.
“His engagement announcement taught me two things: number one, he has a type, two, Senator Booker be at home talking Alexis through it,” she said.
Some online, like TikTok user Marq Lewis were surprised by the news because they had their suspicions that he was gay.
“I’m happy for you bro. You happy, but I didn’t know that you were, um… Yeah, I thought you were…” he said in his post.
But one TikToker was clearly heartbroken by the news that the New Jersey Senator is officially off the market. D_Block_3 took to the app wearing sunglasses to tell her followers just how hurt she was to learn the news on socials with the rest of the world. She even had Vesta’s 1989 heart-wrenching hit “Congratulations” playing in the background for extra emphasis.
“As some of you can assume, I was really taken aback by this announcement. I felt bamboozled. I felt led astray. I felt like Plymouth Rock landed on me,” she said in her post. “To Corey I say, ‘Congratulations. I thought it would be me…But as long as I can breathe, you’ll always be the one for me.”
While most people wished the Senator their best, others reminded him to stay focused on the task at hand in Washington.
“No breaks dude!!!! Impeach trump today!” wrote someone on TikTok.
