Even though Common and Tiffany Haddish haven’t been romantically linked in years, the rapper and actor has somehow found himself embroiled in one of his ex’s legal battles.
Haddish is facing a defamation lawsuit from former friend Trizah Morris and Common, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, will be included in Morris’ witness list, according to Black Enterprise.
Morris is suing the “Girls Trip” star for defamation after allegations of extortion. She believes that Common was involved with Haddish during specific events that are pertinent to the case. In addition to the emcee, Morris’ witness list also consists of two of Haddish’s lawyers in the arbitration.
Morris is mother of the two children who sued Haddish and Aries Spears in a lawsuit that was dismissed in 2022. Both Haddish and Spears were accused of grooming them when they appeared in the pair’s disturbing comedic sketches “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes.”
Haddish and Spears denied the allegations. One of the children, who is now an adult, said in a statement: “My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years — and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us.”
The Jane Doe, who wound up dismissing the suit, also said: “We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.” An attorney for Haddish, however, alleged that Morris used the lawsuit as an attempt at extortion.
Morris filed her defamation lawsuit to negate this claim. Haddish asked to keep it out of state court and in arbitration. Morris stated that she signed the arbitration agreement, but only as a result of bullying from Haddish’s team. She wants the court to disregard the deal.
Haddish has been making headlines over the last several months for all the wrong reasons. In addition to the lawsuit, she has faced backlash for “tone deaf” comments about a trip she was taking to Israel. Haddish was also charged last year with a DUI.
