The family of Samuel Dubose, a black Ohio man killed by a University of Cincinnati police officer, agreed to settle their wrongful death lawsuit out of court for a package valued at $5.3 million, CBS News reports.

Under the settlement announced Monday, the university will pay the family $4.85 million in monetary compensation. It will also provide free undergraduate tuition to Dubose’s 12 children, extend an official apology, establish an on-campus memorial and invite family members to participate in community advisory-committee meetings, according to Cincinnati.com.
Former University of Cincinnati Police Officer Ray Tensing fatally shot Dubose, 43, in the head during a traffic stop for a missing license plate in July 2015. The incident was captured on video.
Tensing, who is white, was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty.
The university admitted in September that the shooting was preventable, adding that Tensing used poor judgment.
