Ciara and Russell Wilson have had a blended family for nearly 10 years. The “Goodies” singer has a son — Future Zahir Wilburn — from her previous relationship with rapper Future. While Cici and Wilson would go on to have three more children together, the family of six is now all share the same name and folks on social media are feeling some type of way about it!

People first got a clue earlier in the week after Wilson reposted a picture of his wife, daughter Sienna, and little Future spending some time together at the U.S. Open to his Instagram stories.
“Mrs. Ciara Wilson, Future Wilson and Sienna Wilson,” he captioned the post along with three heart eye emojis.
Now, while you’d think that would be a nothing-burger on the surface, the thing that made folks eyes bulge out of their heads was the fact that the elder Wilson called his eldest child by his last name (Wilson) and not his father’s last name (Wilburn).
Essentially, some folks got in their feelings because they didn’t want what the NFL star did erase the fact that Future has a different biological father and they took to social media to express as much.
“Russ calling him ‘Future Wilson’ was petty and nobody can tell me different. If you’re present in a child’s life, you don’t have compete. Your actions will show the child who’s really involved and who’s not. That post was corny. Future & Russ are corny for this ongoing battle,” one user wrote on X/Twitter.
“I would never ever allow some bull like that to go down, nor would I want to take a man name from his child. I a[sic] stepfather I always try to respect the father of my stepchild,” said another on Instagram. (Tuck this comment off to the side, we’re gonna circle back to it soon.)
However, there were others who praised the former Seattle Seahawks player for making sure Future Jr. was a part of the family and treating him no different from the children he later created with Cici.
“I absolutely love and adore the way Russell Wilson has taken baby Future as his own in every way possible,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“The hate y’all have for Russell Wilson for being a father to Future Wilson when his real daddy clearly ain’t shit is weird as f***. You’d think y’all would be happy for the young lad, especially all you fatherless black men. Applaud that man and cut it out,” said another.
Some Black men in particular called out the hypocrisy from others who were taking issue with it.
“Twitter niggas haven’t stopped crying about Russell Wilson and Little Future since Russ & Ciara started dating. Russ can’t take him to ball games, can’t call him his son, can’t show any kind of love. Y’all n****s want Russ & Little Future beefing like Melvin & Jody lol,” one user said on X/Twitter.
“Russell Wilson isn’t lame. He’s showing what real manhood looks like,” wrote another.
Remember that comment we told you to tuck away? You know, the one where an individual said he’d “never allow” something like what Russell did to happen? Well, the irony in this whole thing is the fact that changing the legal last name of a minor child can’t happen without the explicit permission of both parents. Which means, Future Sr. would’ve had to sign off on the change to begin with.
And according to court documents reviewed by TMZ on Friday, that looks to be the exact case with the change reportedly taking place a few years ago. And to make this even more of a non-issue, Future legally has both of his last names, making his full name Future Zahir Wilburn Wilson.
So contrary to what you may see online, Williams didn’t take away any sort of parental claims from Future Sr. He further embraced his son and made sure their entire new family unit was all one band and one sound. How can you be mad at that?
