Four guards at New York City's Rikers Island jail have been convicted in connection with the beating of an inmate and a cover-up effort, Reuters reports.

According to Reuters, Christopher Huggins, 34, and Michael Dorsainvil, 36, were convicted of filing false records and assault; Ronald Donnelley, 63, and Mark Anglin, 38, were found guilty of filing false records afterΒ a two-week trial. Huggins and Donnelley were found guilty Thursday by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Michael Gross. A jury found Anglin and Dorsainvil guilty Wednesday.

"These verdicts send a strong message to the city's correction officers: Engage in brutal behavior, lie to cover it up, and you will be punished," said Department of Investigation Commissioner Mark Peters. The DOI investigates corrupt city employees.
