Rihanna’s Constant, Surprising Struggle That Led Her to Launch Fenty Hair

In a new interview, Rihanna said falling in love with her natural hair was a “struggle.”

You may think that a beautiful billionaire with successful beauty and fashion businesses, scores of hit records and three adorable kids would have self-confidence oozing out of her pores. But believe it or not, even Rihanna has moments of self-doubt, too.

On a recent appearance on the “COUCH by Lena Situations” podcast, the singer, entrepreneur and mom admitted that she’s had moments when she’s second-guessed herself in both her personal and professional lives.

During the revealing sit down, the “Umbrella” singer opened up that learning to love her hair in its natural state wasn’t always easy, adding that her struggles served as the inspiration for the launch of her Fenty Hair line of products.

“I wanted products that not just worked, but more importantly, I wanted them to repair your hair and replenish your hair every step of the way,” she said.

Rihanna said she believes part of the problem is that people are often conditioned to believe that what they have isn’t good enough.

“We’ve always been taught to love what you don’t have, especially when it comes to hair,” she said. “If you have straight hair, you want it to be bigger. If you have big, curly hair, you want it to be straighter and thinner.”

The Fenty boss said insecurity has seeped into the creative process with her music, telling Lena that she’s not always sure when her records are ready.

“Anything that you’re creating, you get to a point where you’re like, ‘Okay, we’re about to go for it. Is it good enough?’ And I even experience that with music,” she said. “When I make my albums, I get to a point where I think, ‘Wow, I’ve lived with it for so long, I know it works, but now I’m about to give it to the world. Like, is it right? Is it right yet?’”

Maybe she should give us a little sample of some new music so we can let her know if it’s ready for the world.
