It has been just over a year since Regina King sat down with GMA’s Robin Roberts in a heart-touching interview to talk about life after the passing of her son, Ian Alexander Jr., who died by suicide in 2022. As we previously reported in The Root, King expressed that her journey with grief made her a different person who can respect and understand her son’s choice after watching him struggle with depression.

While coping with her son’s loss, the Oscar-winning actress also said that she does her best to keep his memory alive, and now Regina King has shared one of the ways that she is doing just that. In a recent Haute Living cover story, King spoke about “MianU,” the orange wine that she launched earlier this month to honor her son.
King was first introduced to orange wine by her son, Ian, and so MianU was born out of inspiration for Ian’s love for art and as a way to celebrate connection, as stated on the website.
“It just made sense to start with Orange wine. That was him. His art, his creativity—it’s all in there. Every time a cork opens, or every time I’m pouring a glass, I’m thinking of Ian… His name is right there, in the middle of it all. He’ll never be forgotten,” King told Haute Living.
Love and community are at the forefront of King’s MianU campaign, as the site features short episodes where the 54-year-old spends quality time with close friends to share stories, memories, and a glass of wine. The “Poetic Justice” actress also recently sat down with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans to talk about her new film “Caught Stealing,” and what it means to her to share her son with the world.
“This (the wine) forces me to share Ian, you know, cause Ian is mine, but Ian isn’t just mine, he’s the world’s, you know? “
