Police Officer Lee Cyr was fired from the Fairborn Police Department following an investigation into a comment he made on Facebook under a posted article about MarShawn McCarrel II’s suicide last month on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse.

“Love a happy ending,” Cyr quipped under the article, which was published two days after McCarrel’s death. Once the comment came to light, Cyr was placed on paid leave. WDTN reported on Monday, however, that the department had since concluded its investigation and released a statement declaring Cyr’s post to be “in violation of the department’s social media policy” and not conforming “to the Professional Standards & Core Values established by the organization.”
