Because the world is losing its collective grip on reality, and conservatives want to govern everything, including women’s bodies, Oklahoma state Rep. George Faught, a Republican, authored a bill that would stop abortions including cases involving genetic abnormalities.
But wait—I know it’s hard to imagine, but it actually gets worse. When Oklahoma state Rep. Cory Williams, a Democrat, asked Faught if his controversial House Bill 1549 (pdf) takes the view that rape is the result of the “will of God,” the barbaric-thinking Stone Age throwback said:
“Well, you know, if you read the Bible, there’s actually a couple circumstances where that happened. The Lord uses all circumstances. I mean, you can go down that path, but it’s a reality, unfortunately,” he said, Raw Story reports.
Williams then asked if incest was the “will of God.”
Faught replied: “Same answer. Doesn’t deal with this bill.”
Williams argued:“You are proffering a divine intervention as the reason why you won’t do that, and so I think it is very important. This body wants to know —and myself personally—whether you believe rape and incest are actually the will of God.”
“It’s a great question to ask,” said Faught. “And, obviously, if it happens in someone’s life, it may not be the best thing that ever happened, but—so you’re saying that God is not sovereign with every activity that happens in someone’s life and can’t use anything and everything in someone’s life, and I disagree with that.”
