Almost 30 years after a civil court held O.J. Simpson liable for the wrongful deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, his estate has agreed to pay a wild sum of money to Fred Goldman, Ron’s father.

According to PEOPLE, the creditor claim was filed by Fred in July 2024 for the amount of $57,997,858.12, “plus judgment interest on the approved amount.” The settlement agreement was filed by Malcolm LaVergne, the estate’s executor, in the Clark County District Court in Nevada on Friday, Nov. 14.
Michaelle Rafferty of Maupin, Cox & LeGoy, the Goldman family’s attorney, confirmed the settlement in an official statement.
“The Executor’s acceptance of the claim is a positive acknowledgement of the debt. It does not constitute payment, Rafferety said. “This acceptance allows the administration of the claim to move forward in probate. We will continue to monitor the probate process as it progresses.”
To pay down the settlement, Simpson’s personal items will be auctioned off under the supervision of a probate judge.
In what is considered one of the most infamous trials in U.S. history, Simpson was acquitted on Oct. 3, 1995, of both murders. Following Simpson’s acquittal, the Goldman family took O.J. to civil court in 1996. Eventually, they were awarded more than $33 million in the wrongful death suit.
After he first revealed that he was battling prostate cancer in 2023, the “Juice” died at the age of 76 in April 2024 from the disease. He only paid a fraction of what he owed to the Goldman family during his lifetime.
At the time of his death, LaVergne pledged that Fred Goldman’s claim would be honored.
“I can tell you in advance, Fred Goldman’s claim will be accepted. And his claim will be handled in accordance with Nevada law,” LaVergne said.
But the worth of Simpson’s estate is far below the settlement amount. Malcolm LaVergne, told NBC News the estate is worth between $500,000 and $1 million. Also, The Independent reported that “creditors and the Goldman family were not legally allowed to go after his income.” Before his death, Simpson was receiving $42,000 per year in Social Security, a Screen Actors Guild pension, and a pension somewhere between $125,000 and $300,000 per year from the NFL.
CBS affiliate KLAS reported that the next court date in probate court is set for January.
