New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services suspended four of its top officials earlier this week in the wake of the death of a 6-year-old Harlem boy who was covered in bruises, the New York Post reports.

According to the report, an ACS assistant commissioner, a borough commissioner and two other officials have been suspended fro 30 days without pay as the investigation into Zymere Perkins’ death continues.
Zymere died after being rushed to the hospital with multiple bruises all over his body. His mother, 26-year-old Geraldine Perkins, and her boyfriend, 42-year-old Rysheim Smith, have been charged with child endangerment. Zymere’s mom told authorities that Smith beat Zymere with a broomstick, officials said.
However, prior to the little boy’s death, his mother had been at the center of at least five city investigations of potential child abuse, authorities say.
“ACS continues to conduct a thorough review of the Perkins case,” the agency said in a statement. “So far we have identified serious concerns related to ACS’ supervision of the staff who worked with this family.”
