A Judge Made An Important Decision in Nicki Minaj’s Ex-Convict Husband Kenneth Petty’s Case. Here’s Why.

Now that he's recently completed house arrest, Petty is looking to expand his reach.

Updated on April 19 at 2:10p.m.PT: It looks like Nicki Minaj wonโ€™t be alone as she heads overseas for the European leg of her โ€œPink Fridayโ€ tour as a judge has granted her husband Kenneth Pettyโ€™s plea to accompany her.

But of course, that decision comes with certain terms and conditions as noted by People:

โ€œ[Petty] shall keep his probation officer updated with the details of his travel itinerary as needed. At the conclusion of the travel, [Petty] must return to Los Angeles and must check in with his probation officer upon returning,โ€ the filing states. โ€œMr. Petty must also provide an itinerary to his probation officer prior to travel and follow all directives of the probation officer.โ€

โ€œThe order granted by the court speaks for itself,โ€ said Pettyโ€™s lawyer in a statement following the decision.

Kenneth Petty, Nicki Minajโ€™s husband, is looking to expand his freedom into international territory.

At least, that appears to be the case according to new court documents filed on his behalf on Monday asking a judge for federal permission to travel overseas to accompany his wife on the European leg of her โ€œPink Friday 2" world tour beginning April.

Petty cites child care and โ€œvarious purposesโ€ for his reasoning.

โ€œDefendant Kenneth Petty (โ€œMr. Pettyโ€), by and through counsel, hereby applies to the Court for an Order allowing him to travel out of the country with his family for his wifeโ€™s tour and her professional purposes,โ€ the document reads in part as published by legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff.

โ€œMr. Petty and Mrs. Petty believe Mr. Petty is necessary to accompany the family on the tour for various purposes, including childcare. The anticipated travel schedule begins on April 17, 2024 and continues periodically to July 14, 2024. The travel schedule calls for travel to several countries including Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, and Romania.โ€

โ€œThe Government has been notified about this application and takes no position. Mr. Pettyโ€™s probation officer has been notified of this application and has no objection to the travel request.โ€

If his request is granted, Petty will be required to give his probation officer details of his itinerary before he leaves and check in with the details of his travels intermittently while overseas when necessary. When that portion of the tour concludes, he has to come back to Los Angeles county and check back in with his parole officer.

As previously reported by The Root, Petty recently completed 120 days of house arrest after he violated the conditions of his parole by making very public threats against rapper Cardi Bโ€™s husband, Offset.

Accused of first-degree rape and convicted in the 1990s, he served four years in prison after reaching a plea deal to reduce charges to attempted rape. He was required to register as a sex offender in the state of California as part of the conditions of his plea deal, but failed to do so resulting in him placed on probation. He has since registered.
