Of course, her fans expected all things classic Nicki for this comeback, her Barbie aesthetic, and catchy beats, but most of all those eyebrow-raising disses. And this album delivered just that, and rapper Latto was the one to fall victim.
Last month Nicki posted on Instagram, alluding to possible beefs being addressed in the album typing, βIf you had the opportunity to apologize and didnβt take it, always remember: you had the opportunity of a lifetime.β Interestingly, itβs often been Nicki to start the beef sheβs had with people over the years. But sheβs the one expecting apologies? Yeah, good luck with that, Nicki.
The βSuper Bassβ rapper has had a rocky time in her career to keep relationships with other musicians, specifically female singers and rappers. So far sheβs pickled fights with Cardi B, Remy Ma, Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus, Lil Kim, Iggy Azalea, and Taylor Swift.
In the fifth track of the new album, βFallin 4 Uβ, she drops a play on words that might reference the βPut It On Da Floor Againβ rapper:
βPicture you endinβ up under the sea, where the dread at?/Picture not listeninβ when I said you would dread that/ I mean locs ho, youβs-youβs a chop ho/ Iβm number one, yβall go argue over top four/ Clean sweep, you gettinβ mopped, hoβ
In her rapping cadence, βlocs hoβ sounds like Latto. βYouβs a chop, ho?β Uh oh! Last November, Nicki had an issue with Lattoβs song βBig Energyβ getting nominated for a Grammy in the rap category while her song βSuper Freaky Girlβ was removed from rap and put in the pop category. She went on to say that artists should be speaking up when others are wronged, calling Latto (who is Black and white) a Karen for not taking a stand for her. Latto, disappointed in Nicki whom she respected, posted on X that she couldnβt even celebrate her Grammy nomination due to all the fuss. The two artists continued to air out their grievances over X. Unfortunately, a year later it seems like Nicki isnβt ready to let it go.
