And another one bites the dust! Comedian and actor Nick Cannon usually keeps a tight lip about his political views, but now it seems he has some major criticism for one of the two leading political parties in the country—and it’s not what you might imagine.

During a recent episode of his YouTube series, “Big Drive,” Cannon told his friend and guest, Amber Rose, that when it comes to her controversial politics, he agrees “100 percent.” We previously told you Rose made a 180-degree turn from a pro-choice liberal to a MAGA-supporting Trumper, even speaking at the 2024 Republican National Convention.
But while Rose was busying campaigning for Trump, another Black entertainer, TLC member Chili, inadvertently made several donations to his campaign. Specifically, Federal donation records showed she donated almost $900 to WinRed, which has direct ties to Trump.
“I WANT TO BE CLEAR: I am not MAGA and do not support any of the many policies that are causing great harm to the American people,” she wrote on Instagram. As Chili was defending her politics this past weekend, Rose and Cannon continued bonding over their shared conservative values.
Rose, a mother of two Black boys, told Cannon, “Democrats don’t care about Black people.” She added, “They don’t care about people of color, and the Republicans do. And that’s a misconception.” To that, Cannon agreed with her statements and gave a brief history lesson…which notably missed a lot of context.
“People don’t know that the Democrats are the party of the KKK,” Cannon responded. “People don’t know that the Republicans are the party that freed the slaves.” Technically, the “Drumline” star is correct: the Democratic party of the 1800s did support chattel slavery and the Confederacy. It wasn’t until Republican leaders like President Abraham Lincoln took over that slavery was abolished in 1865.
… But there’s way more to the story, including the ideological switch between Democrats and Republicans which was largely driven by civil rights politics of the 19th century. Democrats like former President Franklin D. Roosevelt stamped the New Deal— a series of government programs meant to help the country recover from the Great Depression– and paved the way for Black Americans and other minorities to shift their support from the Republican Party.
As far as the KKK goes, the modern version of the group has been very adamant about their support for far-right political groups and the Republican Party, including back in 2016 when the Ku Klux Klan Newspaper first endorsed President Trump… but we digress.
Cannon didn’t stop there! He went on to explain that although he doesn’t “subscribe” to any political party, he does have a soft spot for the MAGA leader. “I f**k with Trump,” Cannon said. “He’s doing what he said he was gonna do…We got the Gulf of America now,” he added, referring to Trump renaming the Gulf of Mexico via executive order.
After jokingly praising Trump’s gold immigration card, Cannon admitted that he’s not as comfortable speaking out about his conservative views as Rose is. “Both you and I have some conservative views, you’re just a little bit more outspoken about it than I am,” he confessed.
Cannon wouldn’t be the first Black celebrity to launch support for the MAGA president. We all know Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Fame has supported Trump since at least 2020. Most recently, the “No Hands” rapper took to X to once again praise the president.
“Trump process might be harsh, but always end with grace,” he said. “One thing I learned about being an American and traveling in the world only us Americans think locally while everyone else think globally and our news show us things that the world don’t see and vice versa, but I’m sticking with my president… respectfully.”
