After signing a five-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, the team has released Christian Wilkins. Now the internet wants to know if it has anything to his locker room behavior.

According to a July 28 report from ESPN, Wilkins was released by the Las Vegas Raiders last week after he kissed a teammate on the head in the team meeting room. An unnamed source who spoke with the outlet said Wilkins’ kiss was “playful.” However, the player on the receiving end wasn’t feeling Wilkins’ show of affection and filed a complaint with the Raiders’ human resources department. As of this post, the team has not released a statement about the incident.

Wilkins, who came to Las Vegas after five seasons with the Miami Dolphins signed a four-year, $110 million deal with the Raiders in 2024, which included an $84.75 million guarantee, according to CBS Sports. With the release, the team decided to void the remaining $35.2 million of the guarantee which hasn’t been paid.

But according to CBS Sports, the kiss may not have been the only reason the Raiders chose to part ways with Wilkins. The defensive lineman, who injured his foot last October, was at odds with the team after refusing their recommendation to have another procedure after his initial surgery was unsuccessful. Instead he wanted to heal through rehab. The NFL Players Association has filed a grievance on Wilkins’ behalf.

The story has already taken on a life of its own on social media, with memes flying, including this post on X of a “Key & Peele” skit about what happens when players cross the line in the locker room.

Some took the moment to cite other questionable things Wilkins has done on the field, including grabbing other players’ butts.

But others online argue that the Raiders had to have a much bigger reason to cut ties with a player who had such a huge contract.

“No team is gonna cut a player they just signed for $110M, for kissing a teammate on the head. Definitely being covered up for something much worse,” wrote someone on X.
