Taylor was already on the run for killing his wife, whose name has not been released to the public yet. He fled their Brooklyn home after stabbing his wife to death, according to a press release from the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office. That’s when he eventually landed in North Carolina.

But it was while he was in North Carolina that Taylor admitted that he began to feel remorseful about the murder. This prompted him to track down his ex-wife, a woman named Tishawn Folkes-Taylor. He then crossed multiple state lines to Schenectady, N.Y., where Folkes-Taylor and her three children lived. Taylor checked into a hotel and in the early morning of May 28, 2023, he broke into Folkes-Taylor’s home and stabbed her over 20 times, reports say. Folkes-Taylor, unlike his current wife, “deserved it,” Taylor told police.

Per authorities, Taylor confessed he was overwhelmed with guilt after killing his wife, so he decided to murder his ex-wife next. He admitted he held deep resentment toward her.

“People should know that Tishawn Folkes-Taylor, while facing down her killer and knowing his intent, made sure to protect her children and after stabbing her more than 22 times, Mr. Taylor fled into the night without harming them,” District Attorney Robert M. Carney said.

All three of the woman’s children– two of which are Taylor’s– were in the house during the violent murder. Taylor then fled the house through a bedroom window and discarded his clothes. He proceeded to take a taxi back to his hotel to gather his belongings and then to the Albany Bus station before fleeing town.

Days later, police found Taylor at a bar in Philadelphia. They arrested him and extradited him back to New York to face murder charges. New York officials say street camera footage, hotel records, store videos and Folkes-Taylor’s children played instrumental roles in locating Taylor.

“It is my hope that Mr. Taylor, after also facing the charges brought by our colleagues in Kings County, never lives in the world again as a free man,” DA Carney continued.

Because his confession to the murder of Folkes-Taylor, Taylor will skip trial and is set to be sentenced on Sept. 16. He will also face another indictment for the murder of his wife in Brooklyn.
