For many Black Americans, the killing of a white woman by ICE has reopened collective trauma, echoing George Floyd’s death and reinforcing long-held fears about unchecked force.

As The Root reported Wednesday, a statement from the agency called the incident an act of self-defense and read, “One of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.”

However, the video complicates the agency’s account and has further divided public opinion.

The footage shows the agent circling her car. While some of the conversation is difficult to make out, a smiling Good is heard from the driver’s seat saying, “I’m not mad at you,” as a dog sits in the back seat of a maroon-colored Honda.

Another voice, later revealed to be Good’s wife, says, “That’s OK, we don’t change our plates every morning.” When she comes into view, she is outside the car, recording the officer with her own cellphone. “It will be the same plate when you come talk to us later,” she adds before asking the agent, “You wanna come at us?”

Good’s wife is then seen attempting to re-enter the vehicle. An officer is heard ordering Good to “get out of the f*cking car” as he crosses the front of the vehicle. Good backs up, turning the wheel to leave. The footage shakes, with the frame moving to the sky, and two shots are heard before the officer says, “f*cking b*tch.”

On X, reactions are flooding in with debate about whether the officer was hit and who was at fault.

@DanStu_1 said “She wasn’t a threat & he murdered her & called her a b*tch.”

Some blamed her wife as the antagonist.

Debate continued on Instagram.

One user wrote, “She was blocking the road illegally then drove at an agent. Not hard to understand. Told to get out of the car and took off. Decisions have consequences. Look up [transferred] intent.”

Many disagreed, noting her calm demeanor and intent to leave. “If this was what he saw, it’s clear she was driving away from him, not into him, another user wrote. “Jonathan Ross murdered her cause she didn’t obey his order and he was angry at her for that.”

Others expressed outrage like @lorenzothearchitect “I’m in tears whyyyyyy?!?!?!? Renee was smiling!!!! HAPPY!!!!! she said LOVING THINGS TO THE MAN!!!!!!!!”

CBS News has reported that the agent seen in the reflection is the same agent in verified footage.
