Fans of Nelly and Ashanti may be happy to hear the latest update when it comes to the parenting dynamic between the two. And fortunately, unlike seven months ago, this news is positive.

As we told you, in June 2025, the two gave everyone a closer look at their relationship thanks to their new reality TV show at the time, “Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together.” However, any positive feelings folks had were swiftly swept away after a clip of the two having a tough conversation about their child went viral. In it, the “Good Good” singer expressed her frustration over the fact that the “Country Grammar” rapper didn’t help out with changing diapers or getting up to help their son in the middle of the night.
Unfortunately for Ashanti, Nelly only doubled down on his stance of not doing so citing the fact that even before she got pregnant, he told her he had no plans of changing diapers.
Now, however, it looks like the “Hot in Herre” rapper may have had a change of heart as evidenced by a recent interview he gave with to DJ Envy for 96.1 The Beat. During their chat, Nelly made it clear that he has indeed changed diapers and isn’t necessarily against it, but that things like that were really irrelevant once you reach a certain age (whatever that means).
“Let’s be clear. I have changed Pampers. Even when I made that statement, I have changed Pampers. But my thing was that when you get to a certain age, certain things (don’t matter),” he said.
He later added, “The fact that people act like changing Pampers makes a difference in your life is, like, so amazing to me. I have never seen anybody go to the moon because an astronaut changed their diapers.”
Now how did space get into this?! We were talking about childcare, now all of a sudden we’re talking about the moon? How, and we can’t stress this enough, did we get here? Next time Nelly, just tell the producers to chop scenes like this out because at this point, we don’t know which is worse: the initial statement or this truly bizarre explainer oof sorts?
