With New York Fashion Week creeping up, we at The Root felt it would be the perfect time to rehash some of the worst celebrity fashion moments of the year… so far. From award shows to the Met Gala, these celebs did not put their best fashion foot forward.

I know everyone is focusing on the money in her hand and on the ground. But does anyone notice the shoes made of watches?

Yung Dro is dressed like a child headed to his first day of middle school.

I wish I knew what Carter was going for in this all-denim look, but I still can’t figure it out.

Akon

Akon is a legend in the music industry. Nothing but respect for everything he has done in his career, but this outfit is not good. It’s the shoes that mostly ruin it. Wait, are those even shoes?

Doja Cat

You have to respect Doja Cat’s drive to be different on the Red carpet. Although that doesn’t mean that drive equates to a good outfit.

Somebody come get her. Look, the bottom half of this fit is beautiful and elegant. Everything from the head up is a question mark. Was she trying to look like a red tree?

We love it when celebrities take a chance and wear a lot of color on the red carpet, but this suit looks like a blanket that you’d find at an old, old vintage store.

I’m not sure which animal or creature inspired Summer Walker to wear this but I hope she never takes influence from it again.

Yolanda Adams is a gospel legend, but it’s still confusing why she chose to wear these sparkly green pants with this outfit.

A double-breasted suit is always a safe and solid option for a red carpet. But trying to combine black, brown, blue, and white was not the best choice with this suit.

This dress would’ve been much more elegant if she just opted to keep one material or color. But the fact that she chose three turned it into a mess.

Appreciate our R&B king popping out for this flashy look. Unfortunately, it was turning more heads for how tacky it looked to everyone else than how good it looked on him.

Lizzo is another celeb who is always willing to take chances with her style. Sadly, this dress looks akin to something a mermaid would wear, which might’ve been what she was going for.

Doja Cat just opted to go for a wet white cloth, not exactly following the theme for the 2024 Met Gala, which was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
