Mo’Nique Speaks Out on Her Friend, Fellow Comedian Being Shot Dead in Mississippi

Mo’Nique paid her respects to her “brother in comedy,” writing how his untimely death is why you should “treat people the best you can.”

Southhaven, Miss. police were called to an isolated shooting on Burton Lane where they found “one male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.” The person identified as the man shot was a friend of actress and comedian Mo’Nique.

Comedian Reggie Carroll, dubbed “The Knockout King of Comedy,” was shot on Wednesday (Aug. 20). Medical personnel performed life-saving measures at Regional One Health hospital, but Carroll died from his injuries. He was 52.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but police are still investigating. “Due to this being an active investigation, there is limited information to be released,” police said on Saturday (Aug. 23). “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Carroll.”

Now, one man is in custody and has been charged with murder. The name of the suspect has not yet been released.

Mo’Nique paid tribute to Carroll, her “brother in comedy,” in an Instagram Story post, according to Deadline. “This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together […] it was an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time.” She added how she has “no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”

Mobtown Comedy also paid their respects to the late comedian, writing in an Instagram post: “Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on.” The post, accompanied with a photo of Carroll on the club’s stage, continued: “The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”

Carroll’s brother, Jonathan, also thanked folks for their love and support following Carroll’s death. “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received-thank you!!!” he wrote on Facebook.

The comedian appeared in a 2000 episode of “Showtime at the Apollo,” and also in an episode of  “The Parkers,” alongside Mo’Nique, per his IMDB page.
