The music turned television executive has built an empire in a space that is dominated by men; but in Scott-Young’s world, there are women on both sides of the camera—putting in work. “Women, especially women of color, have always been the backbone of a lot of industries but specifically the entertainment industry,” Mona Scott-Young told The Root.

The creator of the Love & Hip-Hop franchise has over 20 years of experience in the industry, and for Scott-Young, clarity is the source of her success.

“Everything that leads to success starts with being clear. Clear about what it is you want to accomplish. Clear about how you’re going to articulate that, clear about your purpose and how you’re going to accomplish that,” she said.
