Michelle Williams spoke on the latest episode of her podcast episode, “Checking In w/ Michelle Williams,” about a memorable – and very nerve-wracking – fear she had to face during the Destiny’s Child reunion at the Las Vegas stop of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour. While fans were losing their minds over the surprise reunion, Williams was focused on one thing.

Loyal “106 & Park” viewers probably remember the infamous 2004 Destiny’s Child performance when Williams took an unexpected tumble during their live set. Nearly two decades later, that moment still haunts the “Survivor” singer.
“I was trying to stay focused because y’all know I still have trauma from falling on 106&Park,” she confessed. “I need y’all to be my therapist about that too, because every time I perform with the girls, it’s in my head: ‘Do not fall, do not fall, do not fall.’”
Determined not to repeat history, Williams took some necessary precautions: She tapped former Destiny’s Child stylist Ty Hunter to cut the fridge off the bottom of her pants. Jokingly calling him “such a butthole at times,” Hunter stepped in as head of wardrobe for the surprise performance.
“Ty Hunter is like, ‘Child, we got to cut these fringes off because we do not want Michelle to fall,’” she recounted. “I was like, ‘Bro, that was between me and you. You didn’t have to make no announcement.’ But yeah, that’s stll in my head. Steps do frighten me now.”
Even after rehearsing the steps with group members with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, Williams still couldn’t shake her ingrained fear. “Did I rehearse them steps? Sure did,” she said. “And then when it came to I was like, oh my gosh, you dummy. You let fear or lack of trust in on that first step.”
Williams went on to explain how she battled with the fear of the fall. “Because if that were to happen, and I fell, I would not be able to live that down for the next 20 years. So that’s probably the only thing I didn’t like was that I didn’t trust the steps,” she said.
The reunion performance, however, was a major musical moment for the Cowboy Carter tour.
“Destiny’s Child, b***h,” Beyoncé announced to the excited crowd as the group strutted down the walkway. DC3 kicked off with their 2005 single “Lose MyBreath,” followed by Rowland and Williams keeping the energy high as they joined Bey to perform “Energy.”
The group then treated the fans with their 2001 smash hit, “Bootylicious.” The nostalgic moment gave fans flashbacks to their 2018 Coachella reunion, where Destiny’s Child delivered a medley of their fans’ favorite classic songs.
Williams pushed her fear aside and lived in the moment. She told listeners that she enjoyed being back on stage with her musical sisters again and has no regrets.
“We turned into little girls again, them teenage girls, those younger girls who kust wanted to sing, dance and travel the world,” she shared. “And Beyoncé was like ‘Y’all let’s have fun. We just gonna go out here and have fun. Whatever happens, happens – but we’re gonna have fun.’”
