It all went down on Saturday (Sept. 20) outside of a home in Miami Gardens. A woman, whose name has not been released, had been driving in the city when she saw her boyfriend’s car parked outside a home on Northwest 184th Street. Per police, she knew “her boyfriend was inside with another female.” And he was.

The man, admittedly, was in Jahniya Imani Meda’s bedroom when his girlfriend came a-knockin.’ The man and Meda heard banging at the door, the woman demanding for him to come outside and alleged threats to “beat [Meda’s] ass.”

According to reports, Meda claims the woman left the porch and went to the home’s side gate before she sprung into action. Meda, 25, admitted she stepped onto her porch and fired two shots at the woman, saying, “get from my house!,” according to police.

The woman, who sustained gunshots wounds to her back and butt, was found inside a Nissan Altima at Walt Frazer Park on the same street a short time later. She was taken to the hospital for her injuries.

Police responded to the area after a Shotspotter alert went out around 10 a.m. Investigators, who found two spent casings on Meda’s front porch, also caught up with the cheating boyfriend, who was seen “fleeing the area” in a Mercedes Benz immediately after his girlfriend was shot. According to an affidavit, he didn’t open the door “because it was not his residence,” but admitted he “heard gunshots.”

Authorities said Meda recognized the victim because they’ve gotten into it before “involving the same boyfriend.”

Now, Meda has been charged with attempted murder. But her lawyers say she acted in self defense after the victim, according to them, went to Meda’s home “with the intent to engage in a physical altercation.” As of Monday (Sept. 22), Meda was held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and was ordered by a judge to have no contact with the victim.
