Celebrities, they’re just like us. And Fantasia Barrino-Taylor’s hilarious and very relatable reaction to the food at the Critics Choice Awards has now gone viral.
For context, the “When I See You” singer and her fellow “The Color Purple” co-stars Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson and executive producer Oprah Winfrey were all seated together at a table during the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday. When it was time to bring out the food, the notable celebs, nominees, and other seated guests were treated to boxed charcuterie, chips and salsa from Baja Fresh, and pizza, which was handed out in paper sacks—much to Fantasia’s hilarious displeasure.

In video footage captured by a seat mate, you can see Henson and Brooks grabbing their pizza from a server, whereas a confused Fantasia looked on. Once she noticed she was being filmed, she deadpanned to the camera and asked: “Where are the lamb chops?” before bursting into laughter. As the camera panned, Brooks put on a small smile as she ate, but Winfrey gave a small shrug and pointed to her lipstick and said: “I’m not messing up my lips
I can’t fault the “Truth Is” singer honestly or Winfrey for that matter! This is L.A. This is an awards show! Where is the fanciful meal? Where is the decadence? “Where is the mashed potatoes? Where’s the cranberry sauce? Where’s the pumpkin pie?”
Next time, Fantasia might want to take a note from Teyana Taylor, who made it a point to sneak of something of substance (a.k.a. a bag of Chick-Fil-A nuggets) into the MET Gala in May 2023. That way, you can be prepared for the worst even though you were expecting the best.
