It all began on July 22 when two female customers entered a Wingstop– the fast food restaurant famous for their chicken wings– located in Memphis, according to WREG. Soon, a verbal disagreement between Herring and the two women broke out as they were trying to pick up an order. It remains unclear what exactly the women were allegedly arguing about.
According to an affidavit, the three women continued to argue, even as Herring walked back into the kitchen. Police claimed she then grabbed a bowl and “filled it with hot cooking oil,” according to the affidavit. And it’s what reports claimed she did after is what ultimately escalated the situation.
Herring came back with the bowl filled with oil and allegedly threw it at the women, according to WGN TV. One of the victims was hit in the face and torso with the hot oil, causing second degree burns on 18 percent of her body. She was rushed to the hospital. The other unnamed woman suffered burns on her right shoulder from the oil, according to WREG. Both women are expected to survive their injures.
Police soon arrived to the hospital where the first woman was being treated. It was then that the injured woman identified Herring as the alleged aggressor. Days after the incident, Herring was arrested by Memphis police and taken into custody.
The 25-year-old is now being held on an aggravated assault charge, Law & Crime reported. She was taken to the Shelby County Jail on a $7,500 bond, according to reports. Her arraignment was scheduled for Friday (Aug. 1). Law & Crime reported that she has since been released on bond.
Wingstop has not yet released a statement about the incident. It’s unclear if Herring is still employed at the Memphis establishment. Her next court date is scheduled for Monday (Aug. 25).
