Meagan Good Drama 'Deception' Canceled

Welp, it looks like time has run out for Meagan Good to compete with or at least capitalize on the success of primetime television's current black Hollywood queen, Kerry Washington. NBC is canceling Good's starring vehicle, Deception, due to low ratings, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

NBC's attempt to capture some of the buzz surrounding ABC's soapy thriller Revenge opened with signs of hope, earning a 2.0 among adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers on Mondays. However, the Meagan Good starrer quickly faded, wrapping its 11-episode run with an average of 1.2 in the demo. 

Good tweeted the following message to fans of hers and the show:

I'm sorry everyone… I just wanted to let you know that NBC has decided not to renew DECEPTION… and I just wanted you guys to hear from me first… I am so thankful …and humbled ..and blessed by the out pour of love and support -to see it come back.. and saddened that it is not… Thank you so much for supporting me 🙂 means so much… Well as I can before 🙂 …Daddy always does best onward and upward 🙂 … Thank you NBC for the Opportunity- I'm definitely better for it ! … Lego .

Good played Joanna Padget Locasto, a young detective who must solve the murder of a childhood friend, Vivian Bowers, by reuniting with the Bowers family, with whom she grew up. The show drew comparisons to ABC's evening soap opera Revenge, but there was also the more obvious parallel to Scandal, starring Washington. With the miniscule number of actors of color on primetime television, Deception, which also starred Laz Alonzo, had a decent shot at capitalizing on an audience similar to the one Scandal has garnered with Washington in the lead: African-American women ages 18 to 49.

Deception was one of a handful of shows NBC has canceled to make room for new shows they have ordered for pilot season.
