The rookie Chicago Bears player became the talk of the timelines after footage of him belting out a song by the singer Maria. And now Mario’s got something to say about it!

It’s not uncommon to see NFL players have fun when their not on the field. But it is a rarity when that fun involves some sort of performance and later prompts a reaction from the artist that inspired the performance in the first place. Just ask Colston Loveland and R&B singer Mario.

As seen in a now-viral video, the white rookie Chicago Bears player recently became the talk of the timelines after footage of him hanging out with his teammates hit the internet. While Loveland being around his coworkers isn’t anything that stands out, what made this clip so special was the fact that Loveland was showing off his “talent” for team-wide “rookie” initiation.

Standing in front of the whole squad, Loveland decided to display his singing talents and belt out a very interesting yet pretty decent rendition of Mario’s 2004 hit song, “Let Me Love You.” And while some of his teammates were a bit taken aback at the song choice and Loveland’s charisma at performing it, for the most part, his act garnered praise from nearly everyone in the room.

People online were also feeling it with one user writing on X/Twitter: “These are easily some of my favorite parts of the offseason- the rookie mini concerts.”

Added another, “America’s Got Talent when?”

It also prompted a reaction from Mario himself who stopped by TMZ on Monday to give Loveland his flowers.

“He swagged it out, he swagged it out. The difference is, now he gotta be careful being in the league and what girls he sing it to. ‘Cause being in the league, singing that song, it’s a different type of potion,” Mario explained.

He later added in part: “It takes a real man to sing a song like that in front of guys and swag it out like. But he did his thing bro, I’m excited to see what he does on the field. Best wishes to him bro, it’s amazing to see this song living this long and it being people’s top pick in R&B. That’s why I do what I do bro, I make songs for us.”
