MAGA’s New Darling vs. MAGA Dropout: How Nicki Minaj Might Become the New Candace Owens

2025 proved that Candace Owens and Nicki Minaj have a lot more in common politically than we all thought.

In this week alone, the CEO of Turning Point USA, Erika Kirk, unexpectedly sat down for two interviews with two influential Black women who couldn’t be more different from each other. Candace Owens has prided herself on being a devout conservative with strong ties to President Donald Trump…but after this week, many believe Nicki Minaj is trying to take her MAGA spot.

The rapper exploded onto the political scene last month, supporting Trump’s policies and spewing anti-transgender rhetoric online. Given Owens’ documented history of antisemitic and anti-trans rants, however, you’d think the two women are pulling a switcheroo straight out of “Freaky Friday!”

Minaj and Owens actually have quite a bit in common, from their love of political conspiracy theories to their apparent conservative beliefs — especially when it comes to the Democratic party and the LGBTQ+ community. Now, folks are making more comparisons as they continue to fall from their former fanbases’ good graces.

Owens’ switch from the GOP has all but labeled her a traitor. Meanwhile, many of Minaj’s “barbz” have the same criticism of their leader. Folks might be quick to dismiss both women as “crazy” and “wild,” but remember those are the same words once used to describe Trump in 2015 … and he certainly showed his critics after being elected to office– twice.

Owens’ growing dissent came like an avalanche, as we told you, beginning with the announcement that she regretted voting for Trump. And since then, Owens has been on a mission to undermine MAGA — a mission only exacerbated by the assassination of her friend Charlie Kirk. She no longer trusts the conservative movement she once championed. Even a four-and-a-half-hour conversation with Charlie’s widow this week didn’t slow Owens down from continuing to spread her conspiracy theories.

While Owens’ motivations have been largely shaped by the death of her friend, the jury is still out on how someone like Minaj can all of a sudden become a darling of MAGA.

Minaj is known as the Queen of Rap and certainly has the career to back it all up. Minaj holds the record for the most charted singles on Billboard Hot 100 and the most No. 1 albums among female rappers, according to Billboard. Her music is enough for many of her fans to turn a blind eye to her recent MAGA rage … but there’s no telling if her allegiance to Trump and TPUSA will cause the queen to ultimately be dethroned.

Already, Minaj has faced countless backlash for beefing with folks like Latto, Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B. But given Trump’s unpopularity with much of her fanbase — along with the sexual assault allegations plaguing both her husband, Kenneth Petty, and her brother, Jelani Maraj — many people are more than ready to write Minaj off completely, as we also told you.

You can’t deny the impact that both Owens and Minaj have on their respective supporters. And that’s exactly why the more they go against the grain, the more people should be paying attention.

And the thing is, political realignment isn’t as uncommon as you might think. In fact, our own vice president, JD Vance, was once a self-proclaimed “never-Trumper,” and Hilary Clinton and Trump have both changed parties, according to Chicago Magazine and the United States Studies Centre.

Do either Owens or Minaj have the influence to become the next face of the conservative movement? Well, that’s up for the GOP to decide. What we do know is that neither has plans to slow down on their political outspokenness anytime soon, and no one has been successful in stopping them either.
