It’s no secret journalist and podcaster Don Lemon has been critical of the Trump administration and MAGA supporters. But what no one could’ve expected is the backlash he’s now facing after a clip from his podcast has gone viral.

There’s been an uptake in politically motivated shootings within the past year. Between the three attempts made on President Donald Trump’s life, the assassinations of Minn. Rep. Melissa Hortman and that of far-right podcaster Charlie Kirk, ongoing political violence is yet another reminder of just how divided the country has become. But while many folks have their own theories about why political violence is becoming normalized, Lemon blamed it all on one demographic.
“White men, something is broken,” he said during an episode of the “Don Lemon Show.” He added, “Something is cracked deep inside when so many of you believe the answer to fear, to loss, to change is violence. Are you listening to me? I hope I’m saying it loud enough for the people in the back.”
With that, MAGA has accused the 59-year-old of being racist. “Don Lemon needs to stop being racist,” @matt_vanswol wrote on X. “We should call out racism when we see it, and this is a man being racist.”
Despite Lemon’s seemingly harsh delivery, the data supports his theory. Statista reported that white men carried out more than 54 percent of mass shootings which occurred during the last forty years. Still, the journalist calling out only white man ruffled some conservative feathers.
@craiglong45 said on TikTok if the roles were reversed and a white man repeated Lemon’s words, “wouldn’t that be terribly racist?” He continued, “Why is it any different from what Don Lemon fingers is doing?”
“Imagine that in the 21st century, a degenerate lady such as Don Lemon is emboldened to spew his retarded racism,” @GadSaad tweeted.
Others online called Lemon out for scapegoating white men while being married to one. “But he is married to a white man, make it make sense,” @mslisadiane wrote.
@movebackbug__ said, “Why doesn’t he feel like that about his husband ??? I’m tired of these frauds.”
Some folks like @JayVTheGreat took to X to defend Lemon…. Well, sort of. “Don Lemon is not racist… You guys fall for the surface level tactics,” the user began. “He spew Marxist rhetoric just like the rest of his legacy media peers. They want a racial divide in this country.”
Other users, however, saw the truth in Lemon’s remarks and told MAGA to take a deep look in the mirror. “Hes not wrong. You can tell by the amount of triggered snowflakes in the comments,” @foxydabs tweeted.
Another user, @RealNyhiem, even asked AI bot about Lemon’s theory. “I started asking grok specific questions about which demographic is more of a threat to the United States and in EVERY QUESTION I ASKED it said WHITE MEN,” he tweeted.
