On Sunday, the 2026 Golden Globes officially introduced a Best Podcast category to their prestigious show. As Amy Pohler and her “Good Hang” podcast walked away as the first-ever winner, her presence and the list of other nominees had us thinking. What about, you ask? Oh, you know, nothing too crazy…just that not one single Black-hosted or Black-centric podcast was up for the award this year.

We get it. It’s a new category, and it is the Golden Globes (the same award show that got blasted in 2022 when it was revealed the organization behind it had no Black members). But come on, now. There are more than a handful of Black podcasts that should’ve at least been in the conversation, and so to prevent this from happening again in 2027, we’ve rounded up a few that we think they should be paying attention to.
“What Now? With Trevor Noah”

One thing we love about listening to Trevor Noah’s podcast is that there’s a high probability that after you listen, you’re going to feel at least 10 times smarter than you felt before. That’s because he and his oft-decorated and accomplished guests do such a good job of breaking down complex topics and conversations to where your I.Q. and E.Q. have no choice but to rise as a result. But hey, what else would you expect from the former “Daily Show” host?
“The Read”

Of course, we had to give it up one time for the one time for Kid Fury and Crissle of “The Read.” If you fancy yourself a podcast connoisseur, then this one should already be in your rotation. If it isn’t, we’re jealous that you get to experience listening to this fun, sometimes shady, but always real duo for the first time.
“The Diary of a CEO”

We didn’t know Steven Bartlett’s “Diary of a CEO” would become such a massive success when it first started in 2017, but we’re so glad it did. Not only do viewers consistently walk away with a wealth of knowledge from different sectors in society, but they’re able to digest the knowledge in a way that doesn’t feel preachy, condescending or slathered in industry jargon that the average person wouldn’t understand.
“Aspire With Emma Grede”

While Emma Grede may be a boss in the business sector, her podcast delves way deeper than that. In fact, “Aspire With Emma Grede” just might be the very thing everyone needs when it comes to jerking the slack out of building your dream life, being more productive on a personal and professional level, and truly becoming a better, more well-rounded version of yourself. (Author’s note: The episode with Tracee Ellis Ross is one that should be in rotation for everybody every month. There were so many good gems dropped!)
“Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachael Lindsay”

If there are two things you can bet on when it comes to Van Lathan and Rachael Lindsay (yes, former “Bachelorette” Rachael Lindsay), it’s that: there may be a few mild to spicy takes, and you’re going to learn something new or reframe how you think about things in pop culture by the end of the episode. The way the two of them bounce off each other while bringing their full selves to every conversation is just one of the many things that make “Higher Learning” so enjoyable!
“Code Switch”
NPR’s “Code Switch” has been at the top of podcast lists for good reason over the last few years. It has a host of diverse reporters of color who aren’t afraid to have the hard conversations about race and how it affects nearly every part of our society. But the key selling point of this pod is that those conversations happen with fairness and humor. Their ultimate goal is to draw the through line of humanity and understanding with the audience. And if that’s not award-worthy, we don’t know what is!
“IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson”

Now you already know this one was going to make an appearance. Michelle Obama’s longstanding relevance, her ability to make guests open up in meaningful conversations that feel like a sit-down with your favorite aunty, her cool brother and their cool friends– make “IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson” one to watch.
