Michael Ealy is opening up about one of his most difficult roles over the course of his career. Despite being one of Hollywoodβs most handsome actors, the βReasonable Doubtβ star recently told βBel-Airβ star Jabari Banks in an interview for Springhill that some of his uglier characters have caused him to deal with longstanding hesitancy with fans over time.
Specifically citing his role in the Tyler Perryβs controversial film βFor Colored Girlsβ β in which he played an abusive alcoholic who infamously dropped his two children out of an apartment window to their deaths β Ealy described the role as βdifficult.β

βIt still sticks with me today. People still hold it against me personally which is not something you expect as an actor when you first start out. You feel like people can distinguish you versus your character. You know, people see pictures of me and my kids and theyβre like βgirl, get them kids away from him,ββ he said.
As unfortunate as that may sound, if weβre being completely honest, itβs not like the beloved star has strayed away from playing more problematic roles. And why would he when he plays them so well? So itβs in that vein that we thought weβd take a look at some of his most villainous characters. But we promise: we wonβt hold it against you, Michael!

βThe Perfect Guyβ- 2015

Honorable Mention: βBeing Mary Janeβ-2017
OK, OK, just hear us out on this one! While Ealyβs character βJustin Talbotβ isnβt necessarily evil, he previously got Gabrielle Unionβs character fired from their last job at CNN and pops up again at her new one as a producer being just as difficult as he was all those years ago. Thankfully, in their new season of seeing each other, they turn from enemies to lovers with an ending thatβs satisfying.
Honorable Mention: βTheir Eyes Were Watching Godβ-2005
Much like βBeing Mary Jane,β Ealyβs role in this movie adaptation of Zora Neale Hurstonβs famous book wasnβt necessarily evil to the core. But in the third act, his character βTea Cakeβ makes a turn for the worst and ultimately meets a sad, tragic ending.
